I want to encourage you to keep your logical mind and to put your hope in the logical and reasonable Jesus of history. In the book of Acts, chapter 17, verse 11, the Bereans were praised because they examined the Scriptures to see if what everything Paul said was true. Becoming a Christian is not a matter of leaving the brain at the door but devoting your mind and reason to fully understand the God as revealed to us. At the same time I caution any line of thinking that suggests we can know everything or understand perfectly. To suggest otherwise is essentially to set ourselves up against God.

Nonetheless, when I encountered Christianity I wanted to be convinced that the resurrection was a historical reality and I couldn’t make that decision until I was convinced - for you the matter may be different.

Once you reach the point of faith where you believe that “Christ died for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18) then all you really need is courage. I recommend arranging a public baptism service at a church and invite your friends. It’s difficult to do and even embarrassing as you consider how your friends might respond - but you may find, as I did, that your friends don’t really know how to respond. So making a public declaration for Jesus and then treating your friends well speaks volumes.

I’ve spoken with a friend who has lived in Hobart and he recommended two churches - Cornerstone ( http://cornerstonehobart.org ) or Crossroads ( http://crossroadshobart.org ) . These are both Presbyterian Bible believing churches and will teach the word of God faithfully.
